Life with Hearing Aids

Prior to obtaining my hearings aids I was finding it more and more difficult to have the most basic of conversations with people (especially loved ones) because all I was hearing were the "background" noises (The noises coming from the café's kitchen and not that of the person facing you). I was finding myself having to repeat what clients were saying to me so that I could eliminate any chance of errors when addressing their queries. You see the phrase "Fake it and you'll make it" doesn't stand when you suffer from hearing loss. Unless you act appropriately and responsibly - that is, have a hearing assessment. The only person you're faking it on is yourself when you suffer from hearing loss.
Being diagnosed with any form of hearing loss can sometimes have a demoralising effect on you and those close to you. However, if one has the opportunity to restore something as precious as their hearing by the means of hearings aids then one should grab this opportunity with both hands. For to lose something so precious and have it returned is a joyous experience - to lose it forever is a tragedy.
It's been 12 months since I started wearing my hearings aids - What a difference hearing can be!
To be able to appreciate the sounds and noises that most of us seem to take for granted each day - Whether it be the sounds of birds whistling in the trees outside your office window, a conversation with loved ones over a hearty meal, listening to you favorite music or watching a movie late at night at home are things that one can "re-experience" with the assistance of hearing aids.
Don't let your goals and dreams be destroyed by hearing loss - Only last week I read about a young Swedish-born man, Johan Hammarstrom, who was in Brisbane on a "stop-over" as part of his round-the-world flight in a small aircraft. (He suffers from hearing loss).
We are never too young nor too old to experience the joys of sound - Don't let the sounds of the world pass you by because of your lack of action when it comes to having a hearing assessment - It may well be the best investment of your life.
